Trezlie Brooks was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on May 12,'64 Her background is in non-traditional trades for women, having piled lumber in sawmills, experience in construction and working as an industrial electrical apprentice. After physically designing and building her dream house in Fairmont Hot Springs, she decided to let go of one dream, and continue with what truly makes her happy, working with clay. Trezlie has been fortunate to attend workshops with a few of the foremost potters in the industry. After studying visual art at Red Deer College Trezlie was able to go to the porcelain capital, Jingdezhen, China for a two month residency to study with the masters and learn the traditional methods of working with porcelain. It is the emotional attachment to the work that excites her. Her focus revolves around daily human rituals, each vessel evoking a memory of friendship, comfort, beauty or family. Since China she has been learning other mediums to incorporate into her art. Trezlie and her son Zayne live in Creston, British Columbia. Having bought a gutted house, and renovating as she can afford it, she believes it is starting again where one left off years before. DYI by necessity, knowing it is her choice and is very content being able to work at what she loves doing. Trezlie is a huge proponent of learning and sharing. As well as her clay classes she is a certified PMC Artisan and gives workshops in this new medium around the Kootenays. As an artist, she pushes herself to learn, grow and explore yearly. It is her quest to be able to combine a variety of different mediums, porcelain, precious metals, glass and enamel. Currently, she has just finished a trip to Mata Ortiz to study with Philo Mora
